Fusion Try-Outs:

Saturday, March 5th, 8:15am-12:30pm

Location: Main Gym

Reminders:

*Check-In & Registration begins at 8:15am

*Masks are required at all times while indoors.

*Dress in solid black dance or workout attire.

*Wear athletic/dance shoes, socks or be barefoot. 

*Learn and perform a hip-hop and jazz dance. 

*Bring a water bottle & eat healthy before the event.

*No visitors or spectators are allowed at this event.

8:30am-9:00am Announcements, Warm-Up, Divide Into 2 Groups

9:00am-9:50am Learn 1st Dance Combo (Either Jazz or Hip-Hop)

10:00am-10:50am Learn 2nd Dance Combo (Either Jazz or Hip-Hop)

11:00am-12:30pm Perform Both Dance Combos in Small Groups

  COURSES 

INTRODUCTION TO DANCE COURSE:

*Dance I, Beginning

This course offers beginning dance technique and choreography. Students will be introduced to various dance styles, including ballet and modern dance, jazz and tap dance, social and cultural dance, and contemporary and hip-hop dance.  Students will gain an appreciation for dance as an art form and develop foundational skills necessary to pursue a variety of careers in dance.  This course includes the application of the choreographic elements and principles, the study of history and evolution of dance, and an exploration of dance from a careers perspective.  This course meets the Visual and Performing Arts graduation requirement, Grades 9-12; one-year equivalent, 10 credits. Pre-Requisite: None.

INTERMEDIATE DANCE COURSES:

*Dance II, Intermediate

This course offers intermediate dance technique and choreography.  Students develop intermediate dance skills of the various dance styles, including ballet and modern dance, jazz and tap dance, social and cultural dance, and contemporary and hip-hop dance.  Students will gain a deeper connection to dance as an art form and develop intermediate skills necessary to pursue a variety of careers in dance.  Students will be introduced to production elements such as staging, lighting and sound, and company organization and management in professional dance careers.  This course may be repeated for a maximum of 20 credits, Grades 10-12; one-year equivalent, 10 credits.  Pre-Requisite:  Successful completion of a beginning-level dance course and/or audition.

*Hip-Hop Dance

This course offers intermediate dance technique and choreography with an emphasis on hip-hop industry movement.  Students develop intermediate dance skills of the various hip-hop movement styles, including breaking, popping, locking, jazz funk, groove, house, and old school.  Students will gain a deeper connection to dance as an art form and develop intermediate skills necessary to pursue a variety of careers in dance.  Students will be introduced to production elements such as staging, lighting and sound, and company organization and management in professional dance careers.  This course may be repeated for a maximum of 20 credits, Grades 10-12; one-year equivalent, 10 credits. Pre-RequisiteSuccessful completion of a beginning-level dance course and/or audition. 

ADVANCED DANCE COURSE (AUDITION REQUIRED)

*Dance III, Advanced

This course offers advanced dance technique and choreography skills to create project-based performances for live, film, and video production.  Students will develop advanced dance skills of various dance styles, including ballet and modern dance, jazz and tap dance, social and cultural dance, and contemporary and hip-hop dance.  Students will reflect upon their dance studies and establish their own voice within the world of dance.  Students will prepare audition or choreographic portfolios, learn business/managerial skills, and develop a professional career plan.  This course may be repeated for a maximum of 20 credits, Grades 11-12; one-year equivalent, 10 credits. Pre-Requisite:  Successful completion of an intermediate-level dance course AND audition

FUSION DANCE COMPANY:

FUSION Dance Company is a diverse group of passionate Franklin HS students dedicated to the discipline and art of dance. FUSION is a class, an after-school training program, a student-governed club, a community booster, and a team. Dancers within FUSION are committed to developing their dance & choreography skills. Dancers wear designated FUSION uniforms for class, rehearsals & performances, participate in fundraising, and collaborate with guest artists in the community. Dancers enroll in a rigorous 20-credit dance course with pre-professional expectations. Dancers establish their own voice in the world of dance with advanced choreography projects for performance. Dancers also create and develop dance concerts for the community. Pre-Requisite:  Application AND audition AND performance eligibility requirements.
