EGUSD COURSE INFORMATION

CONCERT CHOIR

This course is designed to introduce students to the world of choral
music. It is the first course for students enrolling in Concert Choir.
Emphasis is placed on learning, rehearsing and performing quality
choral music in a variety of musical styles. Students practice vocal
techniques including tone production, posture, breathing, and ensemble
blending. Listening skills for musicianship are developed. Basic skills
of reading music and singing music at sight are stressed. Performance
participation is required. This class meets 0UC and CSU Visual and
Performing Arts requirements and the high school graduation requirement.

VOCAL ENSEMBLE

This course is designed as an ensemble consisting of students
performing choral music of a high technical and musical level, in a
variety of musical styles. Students practice vocal techniques including
tone production, posture, breathing, and ensemble blending. Listening
skills for musicianship are developed. Basic skills of reading music and
singing music at sight are stressed. Performance participation required.
This course may be repeated for credit. This course satisfies the Visual
and Performing Arts graduation requirement.

PIANO LAB

This course is designed to teach basic note and rhythm reading for a
piano keyboard. Students will work individually on their playing skills.
The course will include units on music theory and history. Skills taught
are transferable to other music classes. This course may be repeated
for credit. and may be used toward the Visual and Performing Arts
graduation requirement. 10 Credits must be taken consecutively at
Sheldon High School. “a-g” credit at Sheldon High School only.

MUSIC APPRECIATION

This course offers a survey of various styles of music. It is a study of
the musical elements, instrumentation, form, and the unique sounds
that make music what it is today. Historical periods covered are the
Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century. Jazz,
rock, and other contemporary forms of music will also be explored. The
class will include listening, analyzing and understanding music. This
course may be used for partial fulfillment of the Visual and Performing

MRS. HOGGE

Her degrees include a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. She enjoys nurturing developing voices to sing and loves the beautiful harmonies found in choral singing.
